Unit Organization

Organization of the Unit

Patients with hematological disorders are treated both at HM Montepríncipe University Hospital and at the outpatient clinics of HM Puerta del Sur and HM Sanchinarro.

All patients with oncological diseases, however, are treated at HM Montepríncipe University Hospital, where the entire infrastructure is located (day hospital, inpatient ward, procedure room, admissions, hospital classroom, rehabilitation, music therapy, and volunteer services).

The Unit is divided into three main areas, although in practice they are closely interconnected.

  • Outpatient Clinic: new patients are evaluated and follow-up visits are conducted for patients who are no longer undergoing active treatment.

Pediatric hematology and pediatric oncology consultations take place at HM Montepríncipe University Hospital, and since November 2016, pediatric hematology clinics have also been available at HM Puerta del Sur Hospital and HM Sanchinarro Hospital.

Second opinion consultations are available. When scheduling the appointment, it is important to indicate that it is a second opinion visit, as these consultations require more time. Please bring all relevant medical documentation and complementary test results. A medical report will be issued at the end of the consultation.

  • Day Hospital: used for outpatient chemotherapy administration, supportive treatments (blood product transfusions, antibiotics), PAC heparinization, or procedures requiring anesthesia (bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, lumbar puncture, etc.). It operates daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Treatments are also administered during weekends.

  • Inpatient Ward: located within the Unit and reserved exclusively for pediatric hematology and oncology patients. It includes two isolation rooms with laminar airflow, where patients can be continuously monitored.

  • Transplant Unit: autologous transplants are performed.
